Issue 105

Title E67 Birth with multiple off springs
Background
Old Proposal
Current Proposal

Revise scope note for E67 Birth to clarify situation with multiple offsprings.

Copenhagen 5/7/2002

E67 Birth

Subclass of:

Beginning of Existence

Scope note:

The birth of a human being

New Scope note:

This class describes the birth of a human being only as an aspect of major cultural concern. Its focus is on the context of people coming into life. The coming into life of other living beings is covered by E63 Beginning of Existence. Twins, triplets etc. are brought into life by the same Birth event. The introduction of the birth event as documentation element allows for describing a considerable wealth of family relations in a simple model. Suitable extensions may describe more details and the complexity of motherhood with the intervention of modern medicine. The father is not seen as directly involved in the birth. In rare cases, multiple offsprings may have different fathers.
Example: The birth of Alexander the Great.
